Short biographical note

Athanasios S. Antonopoulos was born in Athens. He studied theology at the National and Kapodistrian of Athens/Department of Theology. He continued his postgraduate and doctoral studies in the U.S.A. (Boston University/School of Theology, Harvard Divinity School, Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology).

His studies focused on the Interpretation, History, Sociology and Theology of the New Testament, as well as in the History of Early Christianity, and New Testament Archaeology. Moreover, he extensively trained in the Byzantine paleography, the application of the new technological research methods, especially in the electronic-digital processing, the critical edition of the Byzantine manuscripts, and in the creation of digital databases (Biblical Sources Databases).

He holds a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Athens/School of Theology. At Harvard University, he was a member of the late Professor Dr. François Bovon’s research team and he worked for the preparation of the critical edition of unpublished biblical-apocryphal texts in the Byzantine manuscripts. He has served as a Research Assistant at the Department of Visual Collections of Harvard University/Fogg Art Museum. He was worked at Harvard University/Fine Arts Library as a Supervisor Assistant for the Library’s Public Services Unit.

He participated in numerous international biblical and theological conferences -seminars. He has authored, co-authored, edited several books and he published extensively both in international as well in Greek scholarly journals. He is a Lecturer at the Department of Social Theology of the University of Athens/School of Theology. He is also an Adjunct Faculty member at Hellenic Open University, where he teaches and supervises master theses in the Post-Graduate program “Studies in Orthodox Theology.”
