Short biography and CV

Emmanouil P. Perselis is Professor of Theory and Practice of Christian Religious Education at the School of Theology, Faculty of Social Theology, University of Athens, Greece.

He is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Divinity (B.D.) from the School of Theology of the University of Athens, a Master’s of Arts degree (M.A.) in Religious Education and a Doctor’s of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.) both from the Department of Religious Studies of Lancaster University, U.K.

His research interests focus mainly on the philosophy and theology of religious education, the design of school curriculums in modern pluralistic and multicultural societies and religious development in childhood and youth.

Professor Perselis has been involved in the Ecumenical movement as an active member of several commissions of the World Council of Churches (WCC) since 1992. Among such commissions of which he was a commissioner are: a) Commission III, Justice, Peace and Creation and b) Ecumenical Theological Education Working Group (ETE Working Group). He was also appointed as the delegate of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchcate of Alexandria to the WCC Convention: «Searching for the New Heavens and the New Earth» held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the UN Earth Summit in 1992 and to the 11th Conference on World Mission and Evangelism held in Salvador, Bahaia, Brazil in 1996.

In the academic year 2007-8/Fall, he participated as a Fulbright Research Scholar in the Project «Religion and Secondary Education», of Harvard Divinity School, Harvard University, USA.

He is also a member of Religious Education Association (USA & CANADA), International Seminar on Religious Education and Values (ISRV).

Professor Emmanuel P. Perselis is the author of numerous articles and several books on various aspects of Christian Religious Education including the following:
