Dear Students,
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Department of
Social Theology and Religious Studies, School of Theology,
National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
Beginning your university studies marks a new and creative chapter
in your lives. University education goes beyond acquiring knowledge
and an academic qualification; it is a time of scholarly inquiry,
critical thinking, personal development and active participation
in a community of knowledge.
Our Department represents a contemporary, interdisciplinary academic
field in which Theology and Religious Studies engage in dialogue
with the social sciences and humanities and with major issues
in today’s world. The Undergraduate Programme 2026–2027 reflects
this academic profile, combining scholarly education, research,
contemporary teaching methods and an international outlook.
We encourage you to make creative use of the opportunities available
to you: participate actively in courses and academic activities,
explore the Department’s research fields, seek opportunities
for mobility and internships, and make use of the University’s
services and support structures. Our aim is to provide an academic
environment founded on quality, equality, inclusion, accessibility,
mutual respect and academic integrity.
This Study Guide 2026–2027 has been designed as a practical companion
throughout your academic journey. Its pages provide the essential
information you need about the curriculum, University services,
student welfare, opportunities during your studies, and the academic
and professional pathways available after graduation.
The Department’s teaching, administrative and support staff are here
to support you throughout this journey. I hope you will make creative
use of your years of study, acquire knowledge, skills and experience,
and contribute your own ideas and initiatives to the life and
development of our academic community.
With warm wishes for a fruitful and creative academic year!
Kirki Kefalea, Professor
Chair, Department of Social Theology and Religious Studies
